Below is information regarding the call for nominations for the 2020 slate of officers and directors. Self nominations are encouraged. This year IntNSA is seeking nominations for the following positions:

  • President Elect (1 vacancy): Serves a 4 year term, 2 as President Elect, then 2 as President
  • Director at Large (4 vacancies): Serves a 2 year term
  • Nominating Committee (2 vacancies): Serves a 2 year term

Position descriptions are listed below. Self nominations are encouraged. Candidates will take their positions in October.

General Qualifications For Board Positions

Any regular member in good standing is eligible for nomination and election to the office of secretary or treasurer. They need to have demonstrated they have been a good citizen to the society as demonstrated by participation in activities such as volunteering on the educational conference committee or other committees, or board members of FAN, & ANCB. Prior experience on the board is not required. In addition to being a member of the society in good standing, the qualifications for director or nominating committee must include previous service to the society to include, but not limited to, conference attendance, service on a committee or task force, presentations at the annual conference, and/or other service as deemed appropriate by the Board of Directors.

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Have a working knowledge of IntNSA’s history, mission and goals.
  • Working knowledge of bylaws and policies.
  • Knowledge of the continuum of substance use and addictive disorder, prevention, intervention, treatment and recovery.
  • Commitment to maintaining a strong organization that is responsive to our membership.
  • Ability to handle IntNSA business with tact, enthusiasm and commitment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to motivate workgroup members.
  • Ability to take responsibility and follow through on assignments.
  • Ability to work well with people.

The nominating committee will review the eligibility and qualifications of each nominee. The Nominating Committee or Board of Directors may reject any nomination if either deems the nominee to be not appropriately qualified.

Position Descriptions
President:
The president is the chief executive officer of the society and shall in general supervise and control the affairs of the society. The president shall preside at all meetings of the board of directors. The president shall also serve as a member with the right to vote on all committees except the nominating committee and shall make all required appointments of ad hoc committees. The president may sign with the secretary, treasurer or any proper officer of the society authorized by the board of directors, any deeds, mortgages, contracts or other instruments which the board of directors has authorized to be executed, except in cases where the signing and execution thereof shall be expressly designated by the agent of the society and shall perform such other duties as are necessary and incident to the office of president or as may be prescribed by the board of directors.

President Elect: The president elect will automatically succeed to president. The president-elect, in the absence of the president, shall exercise the powers of the president. The president elect shall perform such duties as may be assigned by the president. These duties shall be such as to allow the president elect to acquire a thorough understanding of the business of IntNSA and the duties of the office of the president.

Director at Large

  • Regularly attends board meetings and important related meetings.
  • Makes serious commitment to participate actively in committee work.
  • Volunteers for and willingly accepts assignments and completes them thoroughly and on time.
  • Stays informed about committee matters, prepares themselves well for meetings, and reviews and comments on minutes and reports.
  • Gets to know other board members and builds a collegial working relationship that contributes to consensus.
  • Participates actively in the board’s annual evaluation and planning efforts.
  • Provides active role in organizational leadership and advisement.
  • Contributes to the formulation and oversight of policies and procedures.
  • Engages in financial management, including adoption and oversight of the annual budget.
  • Contributes to evaluation of management staff.
  • Actively promotes the organization.
  • Active engagement in society evident by prior Board service, committee member or chair, officer of Chapter, presentation(s) at annual educational conference of the society.
  • Demonstrated commitment to addictions nursing, through professional or volunteer service.
  • Ability to listen, analyze, think clearly and creatively, work well with people individually and in a group.
  • Willing to prepare for and attend board and committee meetings, ask questions, take responsibility and follow through on a given assignment, contribute personal and financial resources in a generous way according to circumstances, open doors in the community, and evaluate oneself.

Nominating Committee

Members of the Nominating Committee work actively throughout the year to recruit potential officers and directors. The nominating committee prepares and submits to the Executive Committee at least one (1) nomination for each of the elected offices of IntNSA.

Key Dates

  • July 1 – Deadline for nominations. Self nominations are encouraged, submit your nomination at the link above.
  • July 15 – Deadline for notifying nominees of their eligibility to run.
  • July 15 – Deadline for Nominating committee to present the recommended slate of candidates to the Board of Directors.
  • July 20 – Notice of vote and ballot will be sent to eligible members.

July 30 – Deadline to submit ballot.
