Substance use among nurses

Dr. Stephen Strobbe, Clinical Professor at the University of Michigan School of Nursing, and Past President of IntNSA (2016-2018), was interviewed by MedPage Today regarding substance use among nurses, and relatively low enrollment in rehabilitation programs, despite comparatively high rates of success. The article (https://bit.ly/3rZ0HMD) cites and provides a link to the joint position statement by the Emergency Nurses Association, and the International Nurses Society on Addictions (Strobbe & Crowley, 2017), which calls for an alternative-to-discipline (ATD) approach to treating nurses—and nursing students—with substance use and related disorders, with a focus on retention, treatment, and recovery.
