| Angela is a triple board-certified nurse practitioner with a Doctor of Nursing practice degree from Wake Forest University School of Medicine. She specializes in addiction psychiatry and addiction medicine. Over the last 19 years she has worked in a variety of healthcare settings serving as a teacher, researcher, change agent, mentor, and clinical expert. The last 8 years of her career focus on addictions and psychiatric dual-diagnosis. Her service includes leadership roles at a Health Department, Judicial system substance abuse referral clinic, and subset of Health and Human Services. She has pioneered and created protocol for several Suboxone clinics. Her current appointment is the Chairperson of mental health/substance abuse at an accountable care organization. Angela is a member of the Center for Addiction Research at Wake Forest School of Medicine. Her research interest include: addiction neuroscience, health disparities, pain measurement, artificial intelligence, reinforcement psychology, and the nurse role in SUD. Her current research is on reducing burnout and increasing clinician engagement. She is an avid advocate for standardizing substance abuse screening in primary care. She has lobbied with NC State Board of Nursing for, Just Culture, culture that promotes nurse learning without fear of retribution. Angela is a nurse engineer, focusing on the aspects of human decision making in the addicted population and in the field of nursing, redefining the care and approach in addictions. In 2019, Angela founded Gate City Integrative Medical Clinic, developing trusting relationships within her community. In 2023 she received distinction from Doximity and US News profile as top 10 most viewed NC addiction practitioners. Her life has been dedicated to helping others. She quotes, “My approach to care integrates client overall health, values, and goals while keeping safety a priority as they experience the addiction kaleidoscope. It is an honor to be a fellow of IntNSA serving in such great capacity; Expanding knowledge, outreach, and awareness of addictions. Promoting the high standards of the society is a stride in the national addiction crisis”. On a personal note, Angela enjoys spending time with family and friends. She has a passion for music, cooking, and traveling. |
