IntNSA Statement of Concern on the Shooting and Killing of Alex Pretti, a Registered Nurse, on Saturday, January 24, 2026

27 Jan 2026 12:28 PM | Anonymous

IntNSA USA and IntNSA Global are heartbroken by the tragic and senseless killing of registered nurse, Alex Pretti, in Minneapolis.  We extend our deepest condolences to Alex’s family, loved ones, colleagues, and the broader nursing community during this incredibly painful time.

Nurses dedicate their lives to caring for others, often working in complex, high-risk, and emotionally demanding environments. This work does not end at the bedside; nurses also speak up for the conditions that allow people and communities to live, work, and receive care in safety. The loss of a nurse to violence is not only a devastating personal tragedy, but a profound loss to our profession and to the communities nurses serve every day.

IntNSA USA and IntNSA Global stand in solidarity with nurses across the United States and around the world who are grieving this loss and still showing up with courage, resilience, and compassion. In this moment, we encourage nurses to support one another and to seek support as needed while processing this loss. We also echo calls for a transparent investigation, with clear communication and accountability as information becomes available.

We honor Alex Pretti’s life, service, and humanity. May this loss deepen our collective commitment to safeguarding nurses, supporting one another, and advocating for healthcare environments where compassion is met with respect, dignity, and safety.

Our thoughts remain with all who are grieving.
