Joanne Schwartz

Dr. Schwartz maintains a full-time clinical practice as a psychiatric nurse practitioner at an eating disorders treatment center, specializing in both residential and day programming. In addition to her clinical work in eating disorders, she has worked as a psychiatric nurse practitioner in the specialty area of addictions recovery. Dr. Schwartz has over 22 years’ experience as an educator at the undergraduate and graduate levels with her most recent faculty appointment in the psychiatric nurse practitioner track at Drexel University. From 2006-2013, Dr. Schwartz served as the program director of Drexel University’s accelerated BSN program with an enrollment of over 300 second-degree students. Dr. Schwartz was elected as a fellow to the International Academy of Addictions Nursing in 2018. Dr. Schwartz has been a member of the International Nurses Society on Addictions (IntNSA) since 2015; an ex-officio IntNSA board member since 2018; and co-chair of IntNSA’s Policy Committee since 2019. She was elected to the board of trustees for the Foundation for Addictions Nursing (FAN) in 2016 and was elected FAN president in 2018. Dr. Schwartz earned her PhD (nursing education) from Villanova University; her MSN (adult nurse practitioner) and BSN degrees from the University of Pennsylvania; her post-master’s certificate (psychiatric nurse practitioner) from the Northern Kentucky University and is currently matriculating in a master’s program in addictions counseling at Drexel University. She maintains ongoing professional certification as an addictions advanced practice nurse and a nurse educator.
