The Nancy Altman Memorial Conference Scholarship

The Nancy Altman Memorial Scholarship Fund was established to provide a scholarship award annually to an IntNSA member from the United States Chapter to attend the annual IntNSA conference.

The candidate for the scholarship is a member who would not be able to attend the conference without the assistance of the scholarship.

Nancy Altman was an active member in IntNSA and always made herself available to assist with any needed activities to support the mission of the organization. She was passionate about educating health care professionals about substance use disorders and ensuring individuals who had SUDs were treated with dignity and respect. Nancy was the president of the Foundation for Addiction Nurses (FAN) and was dedicated to fund raising to provide scholarships. Nancy was a long-time member of FAN in various capacities and dedicated to the mission of FAN. On a personal level, Nancy was warm-hearted, generous, kind, and self-less beyond measure. She always thought of others before she thought of herself. Even when not feeling well, Nancy insisted on attending meetings and even conducting them. She made each trustee feel welcomed and important to the organization. Anyone could call Nancy at any time, and she was always available to speak with you – even when she was in the hospital!

The Howe Family Conference Scholarship

Don and Debbie Howe have been members of IntNSA since 2010 and since 2014, have been Trustees of the Foundation. For the last 45 years, Don and Debbie Howe have been involved in psychiatric and mental health nursing. Their history in the field and contribution is significant and led to their support of the organization and it’s charitable arm. Together, Don and Debbie Howe have contributed thousands of dollars annually in memory of their son, Aaron Howe.

Aaron, at the age of 14, suffered a sports injury which led to a dependency on opioids, which later led to using street drugs. Aaron is remembered as being kind, gentle, and spiritual. Aaron had a love for working with those afflicted with disabilities and those who were less socialized, being a friend to everyone.

FAN honors the memory of Aaron Howe and the contribution that Don and Debbie Howe have made to IntNSA since 2010, by sponsoring one attendee’s registration to annual conference.

Criteria

Candidate should be someone who is seeking to join the field of addiction nursing, active in the field of addiction nursing; and have been affected personally by someone with an addictive disorder.
