Suzan Blacher

PhD, MSN, RN, CARN, FIAAN

Suzan Blacher is a Full-time Assistant Clinical Professor at Drexel University in the Online RN-BSN Completion Program in Graduate Division of Nursing. She has over 9 years as an academic educator.

Suzan has Over 40 years clinical practice – addiction nursing, home health care, critical care, GI, and med-surg nursing. She has worked as unit-level nurse educator, staff development educator, clinical nursing faculty. She has served as a consultant for local addiction treatment programs setting up tobacco treatment programs and psycho-medication groups.

She has been a member of IntNSA since 2006 and has served on IntNSA Board of Directors (2007-2011). She served on Addictions Nursing Certification Board (ANCB) (2011-2019) and is a past President of ANCB.  Suzan is Peer reviewer for Journal of Addictions Nursing (JAN) since 2013. She is Trustee for the Foundation of Addictions Nursing (FAN) and is the current Treasurer of FAN. Suzan received a Tobacco Champions Award from American Psychiatric Nurses Association in 2014. She was inducted as a Fellow to the International Academy of Addictions Nursing in 2020.

Dr. Blacher earned her PhD from Barry University; her MSN (Nursing Education) from Drexel University and her BSN degree from Barry University.  She maintains ongoing Board Certification as an addictions nurse (CARN). Suzan has a certificate in Nursing Education from Drexel University, A certificate in Clinical Nursing Education from the University of Miami and a certificate in Complementary Integrative Therapies (CIT) from Drexel University.

Her scholarship interests include education of nurses and student nurses on the stigma of substance use disorders and addiction.  She is also interested in the effects of substance used disorders on families.
