Fellowship in the International Academy of Addictions Nursing

IntNSA members may now submit applications for admission into the Fellowship in the International Academy of Addictions Nursing (FIAAN).

Mission & Purpose

The mission of the FIAAN Leadership Assembly is to promote the vision of IntNSA’s high standards of addictions nursing care by advancing and disseminating addictions science through evidence-based practice, education, research, policy, and administration. Our purpose is to foster excellence in evidence-based nursing practice, education, research, policy, and administration in addictions nursing by recognizing and capitalizing on the wisdom of outstanding professionals. These individuals have contributed in sustained and significant ways, providing visionary leadership in addictions nursing and the FIAAN Leadership Assembly, to support the vision and mission of IntNSA.

Applicant Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must be a current member of the International Nurses Society on Addictions (IntNSA). The applicant for Fellowship is ideally currently certified as a CARN (Certified Addictions Registered Nurse) or a CARN-AP (Certified Addictions Registered Nurse-Advanced Practice). Certification is not required, although highly recommended. Applicants for Fellowship must provide evidence of their enduring and substantial contributions to addictions nursing and IntNSA in one or more of the following areas:

  • Teaching/Learning innovation in addictions nursing
  • Faculty development in addictions nursing
  • Primary Research in addictions nursing
  • Translational Research in addictions nursing
  • Leadership in addictions nursing
  • Public policy related to addictions nursing at a local, state, or national level
  • Collaborative education/practice/ administration/research/community partnerships

Applicants must also provide evidence of how they will continue to provide visionary leadership in addictions nursing and the FIAAN Leadership Assembly. Applicants for Fellowship in the IAAN must be current members of the International Nurses Society on Addictions (IntNSA) and they must provide evidence of how their contributions are congruent with the mission and goals of the International Nurses Society on Addictions (IntNSA).

Responsibilities of Fellows

All individuals accepted into Fellowship are required to fulfill the following responsibilities:

  • Must attend the Academy Induction Ceremony which takes place at the annual conference each year (Should the individual accepted into fellowship not attend the induction ceremony then their fellowship is waived, and the applicant will have to reapply for fellowship at a future date)
  • Maintain membership in the International Nurses Society on Addictions (IntNSA)
  • FIAANs will pay the induction fee of $300.00, adjusted to the individual country’s currency and World Bank membership discount.
  • FIAANs will pay the annual fee of $50.00, adjusted to the individual country’s currency and World Bank membership discount.
  • Scholarship applications may be submitted to the FIAAN Leadership Assembly for review to waive the induction fee for those with demonstrated hardship.
  • Individual FIAANs will provide an annual written report of contributions to addictions nursing that are congruent with the mission and goals of the IntNSA and the FIAAN Leadership Assembly will submit a summary Annual Report to the IntNSA Board of Directors.
  • Participate in the community of Fellows as a means of advancing and disseminating addictions nursing.
  • Remain an active member of the International Nurses Society on Addictions (IntNSA) by attending the annual conference frequently and by participating in various activities of IntNSA.
