Dr Susanne Fogger

President, IntNSA USA

Dr Susanne Fogger is the President of INTNSA USA since 2023. She is one of the co-editors of the ANA’s Scope and Standards of Addictions Nursing Practice, published in 2022. In addition, she is the Treasurer of the International Nurses Society on Addictions for the past 4 years.  In her professional role, she is a Professor at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, School of Nursing.

Dr. Fogger’s passion is teaching addictions and psychiatric nursing across the curriculum. She has practiced in several faculty practices within the UAB infectious disease clinic and a chronic pain clinic. Her ongoing clinical experience includes scholarship in the care of individuals with HIV, substance use disorders, pain management and mental illness. She had a workforce enhancement grant supporting interprofessional education increasing training on opioids and other substance use disorders. As an Air Force veteran, she uses a veteran centric mental health care approach to her teaching in treating trauma informed care.

She often works with individuals who are struggling with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. She is a scientist with the Center for Addiction and Pain Prevention and Intervention for UAB.  She has been recognized by the American Association of Nurse Practitioners as a Fellow in 2015 and was elected as Treasurer to the Board of Director of the International Nurses Society on Addictions since 2017. In addition, she an Associate Editor for the Journal of Addictions Nursing.
